A New York security camera team that builds its own tools
SafeZone started in 2019 as a small CCTV crew in Brooklyn. Seven years on, we still pull cable and mount cameras ourselves — but now we also write the software that runs them. Design, installation, and the apps you watch on are all done in-house.
Our story
From a Brooklyn van to our own platform
We started the way a lot of local trades start: one van, a ladder, a box of drills, and a phone that rang for camera jobs around the neighborhood. Early on, the work was straightforward — a storefront that wanted eyes on the register, a homeowner who was tired of packages going missing. We learned New York buildings the hard way, one brownstone and one walk-up at a time.
What changed is what we do after the cable is run. Off-the-shelf camera software was clunky, slow to load on a phone, and hard to explain to a customer. So we started building our own. Today that includes a recording engine that handles the video, the tools we use to set up and check cameras on site, a cloud platform that ties a customer’s system together, and the mobile app you actually open to watch a live view or pull up a clip.
Building the software ourselves means we are not waiting on someone else’s roadmap. When a customer asks for something reasonable, we can usually do it. And when something breaks, the people who wrote the code are the same people who answer your call. We are still a local New York team — we just happen to be the ones writing the app, too.
How we work
The way we run a job
No high-pressure sales, no mystery line items. Here is what working with us actually looks like.
Site visit first
We come look at the property before we quote it. Walls, sight lines, where the recorder goes, how cable can run — you can’t size a real system off a phone call.
Honest quotes
We tell you what’s included and what could add cost — long cable runs, masonry, electrical work — before any work starts, not after the invoice.
Clean installs
Wiring routed out of the way, cameras mounted level, and the site left tidy. Most homes and stores are done in a single day.
Training included
Before we leave, we set up the app on your phone and walk you through live view, playback, and pulling a clip. You should be able to use it the same day.
We answer when you call
After install, you have a number that reaches us — not a call center. The crew that wired your system is who you talk to.
We build the software
The recording engine, camera tools, cloud platform, and mobile app are ours. That keeps the system reliable and lets us fix things quickly.
